Ajovy is a prescription drug that is a member of the CGRP inhibitors pharmacological class. Calcitonin gene-related peptide, or CGRP, is a chemical that has a role in migraines. Ajovy prevents adult migraine attacks by inhibiting the action of CGRP.

Uses

Adults with episodic migraine (fewer than 15 headache days per month) or chronic migraine (more than 15 headache days per month) can use ajovy to avoid migraine symptoms. Acute migraine episodes and other types of headaches are not treated with ajovy.

Dosage

Ajovy is administered subcutaneously as an injection of a liquid solution. Ajovy can be administered by a medical professional or, with the necessary training, by you at home. Ajovy comes in two dosage forms:

• 225 mg each month
• 675 mg once every three months (quarterly).

You can select the dosing strategy that best fits your schedule and preferences. Ajovy should be used exactly as your doctor has advised and in accordance with the medication's usage guidelines. Without consulting your doctor, never alter your Ajovy dosage or stop taking it altogether.

Negative effects

Ajovy's adverse effects might range from minor to severe. Injection site responses, which might include discomfort, redness, itching, or swelling where the medication is injected, are Ajovy's most frequent side effects. These reactions typically don't last long and are modest. However, you should see your doctor if they are severe or troublesome.

Ajovy may also result in allergic reactions, which can be extremely dangerous and call for urgent medical attention. An allergic response may cause the following symptoms:

• Chest discomfort or stiffness swelling in your face, tongue, or throat difficulty breathing or swallowing
