About Aimovig: Uses, Dosage and Side Effects
The brand-name prescription medication Aimovig comprises erenumab-aooe as its active component. It is a member of a group of medications known as CGRP inhibitors, which stop the function of a protein that can set off migraine attacks. Adults with episodic and recurring migraines are treated with aimovig to prevent these symptoms.
Uses
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given Aimovig the go-ahead to treat adult migraineurs prophylactically. It can be used by those who experience frequent or severe migraine attacks that are difficult to control with conventional drugs. Aimovig can lessen the number of monthly migraine days while also enhancing the quality of life for migraine sufferers.
Dosage
Prefilled autoinjector pens and prefilled syringes contain a solution of aimovig. You will administer an injection to yourself once a month at home using either type. There are two strengths of aimovig: 70 and 140 milligrammes per millilitre (mg/mL). Based on your illness and how you are responding to treatment, your doctor will recommend the dose that is best for you.
The typical Aimovig dosage is:
- 70 mg every other month, or
- Given as two separate injections of 70 mg each, 140 mg once a month
Aimovig should be injected subcutaneously (under the skin) into your upper arm, stomach, or thigh. Use a separate injection site each time, and adhere to the directions that came with your medication. Aimovig should not be injected into areas of tender, bruised, red, or firm skin.
Negative effects
Mild to severe adverse effects are possible with aimovig. Aimovig's most typical negative effects include:
- Symptoms at the injection site, such as ache, erythema, edoema, or itching
- Constipation
- Muscular cramps or spasms
When your body grows adjusted to the medication, these side effects are typically minor and disappear on their own. However, you should see your doctor if they are severe or troublesome.
- Aimovig's uncommon yet severe adverse effects include:
- Allergic symptoms including hives, rash, edoema, or breathing difficulties
- Blood pressure is high.
- Intestinal obstruction
These side effects may be fatal and call for emergency medical intervention. If you have any of these symptoms, you immediately stop using Aimovig and dial 911 or go to the closest emergency room.
